I have an 81 K5 and had a 350 sbc in it. I put a 6.2 in and got me a diesel radiator.

My brother has a 91 1 ton with 350 tbi. His radiator is junk so I gave him the radiator I used with my 350 (its almost new). He told me he couldnt use it without some modification, it would go so low (I havent cheched it my selve).

When I put the radiator for the diesel in it sits real high, I did make some modification to make it work.

My guess is that GM changed it to make room for the huge diesel radiator.

The bottom of the core support should have the mount slots for the diesel rad. It is possible the 81 core didn't though...but any '82 up core support swaps in with no other mods. The 82 and newer core supports all have the mount provisions for the diesel rad as 82 was the first year it was offered.

GM did use two different height radiators. It appears as you had the short version and the diesel radiator is the tall version. You will need a new top cover plate/hold down for the diesel radiator. This means you need to give your brother your top plate for his radiator to work.

I believe this is the cover plate that you currently have. http://www.classicparts.com/prodinfo.asp?number=78-843

This is the cover plate that i think you need. http://www.classicparts.com/prodinfo.asp?number=78-845
