I'm sure i'm not the first to ask this but i checked the archives and cant find the specific info I am looking for.

I had my 14 bolt rear end re-built about 4 years ago. I am finally getting around to installing it. unfortunately it spent alot of time out in the weather before I could get the hard brake lines installed.

My problem is the wheel cylinders are pretty rusted. I was able to get the hard line bolted in with some brake fluid but it wont bleed.

I think i need to change my wheel cylinders. I bought new ones but never have changed wheel cylinders on a 3/4 ton before.

any advice would be appreciated.:doah:..it looks like the entire axle has to come out...is there any specific way the axle has to be put back in...sorry so many questions just want to do it right...

If its a full floater, you will have to remove the end bolts and remove the axle. you will then need a spindle socket for the 14bff to remove the nut/washer, the remove the hub. once the hub is off, you will see the wheel cylinder. remove the hard line and the two bolts on the backing plate. then spread the brake pads and the wheel cylinder should come out. you might need to pry on the back of the cylinder a little. now put it back together. you will need to find out what to torque the spindle nut , i cannot remember at the moment.

If its a semi floater , alot easier. just remove the hub and then the hard line and the two bolts. spread the brake pads and remove the cylinder.

thanks for the reply...

it must be a full floater cause that drum is not coming off unless those 8 bolts come out...so once that spindle nut comes off the axle will just pull out...

do i need to mark it so goes back in the same way it came out???

After supporting the rear on a stand, remove the wheel and the 8 bolts in the center of the hub. Once those bolts are out...the shaft will pull out. Inside (where the shaft was) you will see a lock nut/nut holding the wheel bearings inplace. Remove those and the hub will slide off.

The wheel cylinder really only goes in one way. Unless you're talking about the shaft to drum position...then no, as long as it's bolted to the hub it's fine.

All the specs and some pictures to help you through it can be found here.
