any ideas on an A pillar handle that is being used to help getting up into a lifted k5? Pulling on the steering wheel doesn't sound good.
Any pics would be gladly appreciated.
Any handles from other years makes and models work?

sorry, I'm no real help... but I would think with the right hardware, you could mount a regular flexable door pull on the a-pillar right above the dash... or similar....

I agree, especially if you had some big whatchamacallits, the threaded rivet things. All I know is it's no fun to loc-tite and tighten those three tilting steering column bolts that get loose from using the steering wheel to pull yourself up.

I wouldn't mind something in Mutt..

I try to baby the perfect tilt column, and grab the seat somewhat and hop up.. but I can't say I haven't done it on sore, tired, beaten by boat's kinda days either.. :doah: :haha:

it's another rig I'd love to just put a non-tilt in, like I did the K5.. serves me no purpose..

I"m not sure what could take pulling up a couple hundred pounds attached to the A pillar with anything less than welding to it....It is so handy to have that grab bar getting up into the lifted truck though.

I dunno, newer vehicle's grab handles are attached with screws on the pillar. Seem to do ok?

The 89-91's had handles above the passenger's door. They were basically just attached to the roof sheet metal. I'm not sure what was behind it. But if you can reach the top of the door opening, the truck probably isn't high enough that you really need a handle.

I did something in an XJ cherokee back in the day with Nut-Serts (Rivnuts) on the A pillar for the anchors and it worked just fine.

I am a fairly big guy, and I use the steering wheel every time. I haven't had to tighten up a tilt column in years. I do how ever need to go through the one in my new to me 1989 GMC V1500 Suburban. It is stock height, and use to have running boards on it......
