Yep. That's right 49" Iroks and street legal. Well, it's licensed and insured. This thing was undrivable when it showed up. When it leaves here. It will be headed for the deepest white powder we can find :).

They will come as I complete the work. It has to be ready to wheel by the 26th. The guy who owns it has his birthday on the 27th. That's the weekend of the Oregon snow run.

12" springs now and push pull steering with a bent tie rod. Getting 56" or 52" main leaf and crossover with assist. Rear disc brakes and shackle flip. HD diff covers and pinion guard. Relocate and repair the steering box mount.

I don't know much about the engine other than its a BBC and needs 92octane fuel. The rear is a 14ff with 513 gears. The front being a Dana 60 with the same.

I'll be doing a tranny mount and square driveshaft. The rear is getting shocks relocated, disc brakes, pinion guard, and an ultra diff cover. The front is getting knuckle gussets, steering, track bar, hydro assist, maybe an engine cross member and the frame repaired.

All has to be done in the next month.

The frame has some big hillbilly repair. I'll be cleaning that up.

Working on doing some of my videos. You guys are gonna be my crash test dummies. Can't seem to get back on this one. Need to though since my deadline is coming up quickly.

if that 60 is all orignal its a first or second year with the cast iron pass side cap for the king pin. that would have neck down inner shafts then .

Does not look like much fender trimming (yet?). I'd be hacking the fenders as much as possible to reduce the lift. Here in Oregon, if your not going up a hill or down a hill your going sideways accross a hill or in ruts. Low center of gravity helps a lot.

They're getting hacked, tubbed and whatever else is needed to clear these monstrosity of a tire! You don't really think much of a 49" until you put a 40" next to it and realize.

image.jpgGot some fender trimming on the front done. Got the knuckles off and in the solvent tank. Gonna try to get them gussets on it today and in the cooker over night. Maybe get the other front fender cut and the springs removed. Gotta start on the trans mount also.

Do you find it easier to fender trim with the truck upside down? Haha my phone screen will keep flipping to keep the picture upside down :what:

Anyways. Was this truck a pavement pounder before? I can only imagine how much better this thing will handle on the trails with the spring swap instead of the 12" dumptruck springs!

Not really sure, but I am having problems uploading pics. Upside down and no security certificate or something. Anyways. Got nothing accomplished today. Put the hinges on the smoker and picked up briquettes. Build for that when finished right will be done up for you guys later. Than I managed to get the thing hot and started putting the reinforcements on one of the knuckles. Got late, had a weld crack out while forming it. So I put it back in the smoker to see what else is gonna crack.:dunno: I hate welding cast. It blows. Apart that is.

Anyways, BIL brought back my hoist and engine stand. No I should be able to clean up my mess of a driveway a bit. Put the parts away that need to be put away and haul some scrap/trash to the appropriate holes.

This truck was built and sold to the current owner as it is now. He hasn't been able to drive it since he put the 49s on. The cab is pretty well rusted out and the owner is planning on playing with it pretty hard. The front leaf pack will get a 52" main leaf but still keep the lift, if it will work. The front axle being moved forward creates some upper shackle mount problems. We'll deal with it as needed. The rear springs will stay as they are but will flip the shackle and relocate the shocks.

Finished cooking the knuckles tonight. I'll sand and paint them tomorrow night. Start reassembly later in the week. The steering ram shod show up in the next couple days. Start trussing the housing and get the mounts all done up. Still need to get the front hanger built and do the leaf pack.

A little side note. Any of you guys that are welding inside or in a confined space. You need to invest in a good respirator. I use a Northern cartridge style. Two cartridges on the side that fit under my hood. Make sure that they are 100% filtration. Scratch that, just get one that does something. Those black boogers you blow in the shower after a day of fabrication. Imagine what your lungs look like. The guys at work made fun of me the first couple times they saw it. Now they realize its worthwhile. It just takes getting used to it. Get one. Ok I'm done for now.

Yep. It's just taking a little while to get started. Give me a call if you make up here at all. We can shoot the poop if you have time. Your welcome to hang out in the shop anytime. :)

I've had good luck peening the weld when it's still hot, really seems to cut down on cracking issues.

I peen the weld also. The only crack was fabricator error. The DIY4X kit is awesome, but still requires some tuning to fit. I didn't have the steel hot enough to form to the knuckle. When I hit it with the hammer is when it cracked. :doah:

After a pretty disappointing start to the weekend. Getting some things accomplished on this one. The front axle will be assembled tonight. The front hanger will be completed tomorrow at work with the iron worker. Screw drilling all those holes.
Had a set of bead locks brought over by a buddy so Kevin welded them up yesterday. But not until after we fixed my welder. Looked in the parts cabinet and realized that the rod ends I thought I had would finish this rig. Nope, left hand rod ends and right hand tube inserts. The left hand tube inserts are of the wrong size for the rod ends. No right hand rod ends. Awesome. Went for a parts run and realized that the race shop is only open on Saturdays by appointment now. Wonderfull. No one answering the phone so No one to sale me parts. Awesome. Drilled the holes for the high steer arms. F'd those up. What a day yesterday was. Oh well! If it was easy to do this everyone would do there own huh?!

So next situation. Who makes this frame repair setup? Tryin to decide if I'm gonna to cut this out or just clean it up.
