Abandoned 73-75 K5 Kane Creek

If that wasn't in the opposite side of the country, I would be on my way to get it right now.:doah:

I may pick this up! I'm two and a half hours from moab and I have spare wheels and tires.

That might be considered stealing if the owner just broke down and just hasn't gotten back.

Anyone know how long it's been out there?

agreed it would be theft, could have already been stolen then left there also. Usually a rig won't stay too long before arangements are made and its hauled out and sent for scrap:(

if someone were a good soul, they could write down the VIN and hit up the DMV, they could provide owner information for a small $20 fee or somethin, or worst case senario, tell a cop about it, and let them track down the owner. If nothing else the owner could verify that they dont want it and hand over the title.

I've done abandoned title stuff before. There's no way I'd touch it without checking the vin first.

Thats happened around here before. Guys get stuck or break and they think their rig will survive a few days until they can get it out. Usually the wheels and tires go, then whatever else is valuable and then it gets torched...

Why the hell do people even consider this ok??

That is no different from taking a vehicle off the side of the road. It is stealing plain and simple.

We have a problem with this here in AZ, someone breaks down and people, very ordinary people feel its free game for parts. I have nearly been in a huge altercation because some people showed up with a trailer to take someones truck that had been left and not even for just a few hours.

****ing pisses me off. The direction of thought should be to get the sherriff involved, not your ****ing tool box.

So it comes back as clean.. you proceed anyways?

fawwwwwwwwwwk off:mad:

Put yourself in his shoes as it could simply be broke down.

So does anyone recognize the rig? It would be nice to notify the owner before the BLM has it removed. Or if it was the owner that abandoned it he needs to fess up and learn that leaving a rig on the trail is what gets them closed!!

The owners are notified by the dmv. They have 90 days to claim the vehicle. Its not stealing at all. I think they send about seven letters or so and make a few phone calls.

It's not any different than an abandoned vehicle tow.. guess all the tow companies are stealing cars right off the road

ETA:

There is a process though.. varies by state. Here if the vehicle is on public land it has to be handled by whatever agency is responsible for code enforcement in that area. Private land.. owner posts it and 24 hours later tow it.

I think he meant it as when people think a truck thats broke down somewhere is for free parts to them.
