??? About D44 and 12 bolts

Dana 44 = Dana 44

Everything is the same from the knuckles in.

10 bolt carrier, while similar in size, is not the same. 10 bolt uses a bolt to hold the center pin in, Dana uses a roll pin.

You have to be careful what you post here, there are some folks who know a lot about this stuff /forums/images/icons/tongue.gif

Just trying to help, not trying to mislead. Obviously I was wrong and I stand corrected. Thats the benefit of so many knowledgeable people on a large site.

No biggie.

Gotta give credit to tRusty too. He knows his stuff.

BTW, on the fronts, they are about the same, even though the Dana has 30 spline axles. This is because they both use the same steering joint and both shafts actuially neck down to the same diameter of 1.21" /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

So it doesn't really make sense to swap one for the other, except 10 bolt shafts are easier to come by these days. That's a good thing cause they seem to break a lot....

so does that mean that you can swap in axleshafts from a 10bolt to a D44?? If all that is different between the two is the spline count....just curious because I need to replace my 3/4ton D44 axleshaft and I have access to some 1/2ton 10b axleshafts for free..
