My air conditioner condenser is making noises...I think its either that or the belt clutch.

Anyway to diagnose it? I have the heat/ac off and it still makes noise which makes me think its the clutch unless the clutch is grabbing making the condensor run. I havnt messed with these much. I might just get a non-ac belt till after spring.

This is on my 91 K5 with a 350 by the way.

Any help would be appreciated guys! Also what does a new condensor/clutch cost? The AC kind of worked last summer but not enough to keep a person comfortable.

Uhh, Drey the condensor is the part out in front of the radiator. The compressor is the part with the clutch on the front of it. It sounds like one of two parts is failing on yours, the bearing for the clutch or the bearing in the front of the compressor. Grab the center of the clutch and see how smoothly it turns. Thats the part that has the rivet heads sticking out the front. Then take the belt off and see how smoothly the pulley turns.

If you have the puller to pull the clutch off its not a big job to change a clutch. But most of us don't so the whole compressor gets changed. We have the tools to change a clutch at work, don't remember the last time we did. Its always the whole thing.

Yup compressor is what I meant. I had a dumbass attack.

Thanks
