So I put a reman compressor w/ clutch this summer and all was well. Fast forward to today, and it squeaks, grinds a little, and smokes...but I haven't run the AC since October...why would it suddenly do this? I understand there is no temporary bypass either since it is a serpentine...am I right? Will I have to replace the compressor to get my truck going again? This sucks, I don't even need the damn A/C until April...

Thanks

here ya go...

whoops, dead link...gimme a few...

If I didn't live in Phoenix, I would definitely ditch my A/C and put one of those bypasses in. I bit the bullet and had my refrigerant evacuated and after removing the compressor, I noticed the pulley had separated from the clutch assembly. It was all wobbly. So I got a new one (warranty) and had the shop recharge my system and of course the compressor won't turn on. The shop said they didn't even try to run it, they simply put the freon back in...

I misunderstood your post, I thought you wanted to bypass it 'till you got it fixed. Those gm compressors bring the suck...here's some good info you might find useful...

clicky

these compressors are all over evil bay with any number of serp. grooves.

hope it helps!
