AC compressor wiring????

Does anyone know if it matters which side of the plug I use as power or ground on an AC compressor? I was told by an older gentleman, been turning wrenches on big trucks, almost as long as I've been turning them on cars, that it didn't matter which side was power or ground, as long as it made a circuit. 2003 chev silverado

Only if the diode is integral to the coil. Other wise is just an electromagnet.

I don't know if this one has a diode in it or not.
Guess we'll find out in the AM, when I start running power and ground.

3.7 Ohms both sides. No diode. Off we go...
