My 87 blazer has AC and I recently filled it and it appears to work. But in the engine compartment where the tube goes into the cabin there is a giant hole. It looks like they used some kind of tar crap to plug the hole. Mine is just bare. So a lot of cold air ends up getting wasted in the engine compartment. What can I use to plug the hole with?

Im thinking it was butyl(think thats spelled correctly) really gummy nasty stuff that seems to up and vacate over time when it gets warm/hot. Im no A/C whizz or nothing but i wonder if a little shot of expansion foam around the tube inlet would do the trick.

Ya I just dont know what to use that would hold up to the heat of being under the hood. I've ran the foam across my mind once. This isn't a show truck so I dont care how it looks I just want it to work correctly.

Im bettin the foam would hold up to the heat, if you want piece of mind buy a roll of that adhesive backed heat tape and wrap a lil on afterwards.
Ive found countless other uses for the tape so the price is justified to me.

3M sells Butyl "Strip-Caulk" ,commonly refered to as "dum-dum" in the body shops to plug up gaps and holes in car bodies, around tail lights,etc..body shop supply stores have it or can get it.. I've seen it come in rolls too, like the stuff they gave me with my quonset garage to caulk between the steel arches,it had crepe paper on both sides, looked like a jelly roll..seen it at places that sell RV supplies ..

I think thats the same stuff I used. Got mine from o rielys just asked for windshield seal in a roll. Made by 3M

I took a rubber bushing I had sitting around and cut it up to roughly fit in the hole. Then I used black silicone on the inside and outside of the rubber donut I made to hold it all together.
