So I am replacing my heater core this weekend and for posterity I have taken the AC/HeaterBox off the firewall (engine side) to paint it cause it looks like garbage and I am sick of looking at it.

I was going to use RTV to seal it back up to the firewall but then I was reading the Heater Core replacement tech article and it was talking about some sort of "putty seal" from the factory.

Does anyone know what that seal is or where I can buy it or something similar? I just want to do this right so I get a nice seal.

Thanks,
John

I *think* 3M makes a seam sealer that looks like silly putty that you can get in a 20' roll for stuff like that. I worked in an auto body supply store and IIRC, we carried some of that stuff. It wasn't exactly cheap, but it was for a factory type seal. You might want to try an auto body supply store for yourself.

I get the buttle tape from the windshield guys and use it. You can also get it from a autobody suply store. It's black about 3/8 round and comes in a roll. Very sticky.

Sweet! A little Internet research and I found some butyl tape at my local camping world. Should work perfect. Thanks for the input!
