Correct me if im wrong but if i cut my ac out from the firewall and remove it completely it wont effect the heater or wiring of it at all would it?

if u mean just disconnecting the ac lines no it wont effect your heat, as far as the wiring as long as u dont mess with the blower wiring u will be okay there as well.

You can't remove it completely , you need the box so the air can flow through the heater core when the door opens switching from cold to hot .

You can weld up the hole and put in a new setup from a heat only rig , or make some kind of new box , or wait for weeks and months for the guy on the internet selling the heater only boxes for a/c trucks ( and muslecars , I heard about it on Team Chevelle ) .

The wiring itself plugs into the dash harness near the radio and then out the hole in the center of the firewall , just find a heater only truck and unplug that harness :thumb:

One thing ive noticed is that it looks like the heater/ac unit is vacumm controlled? I did want to cut the whole thing out from the firewall and see if i coulndt make iot work or make my own box, but with the whole thing being vacumm controlled i dunno and i dont have the experience, know how to yank everything out and make it work. Thanks pauly and chevyuser74

There is no cutting, you unbolt everything, then plug the hole up. The easiest way is either to get a complete non-AC setup from another truck, or go with something like a mojave heater instead of the stock setup.

i know on my 88 s10 i had to remove the a/c after i bagged it. i put in a non a/c heater boxon the fire wall and had to rewire the resistor because on a non ac it only has 3 speeeds were the a/c had 4 speeds. i had to remove the a/c again on my 92 s-10, but made a hole in the non a/c box to put the resistor that works with the a/c.

both ways work fine for me

One thing ive noticed is that it seems the ac/heat switch seems to be vaccum operated, will that cause an issue? i know nothing about ac/or heat. should i just look into finding a non ac truck?

See above. Just about everything is different between the two setups short of the single brown 12V wire to the switch on the controls from the fuse panel, and how the controls bolt up to the dash.

Then you start getting into the early/later non-AC setups that had different controls, and the HD heater options or standard heater.

At this point i want to remove all ac and run just a heater. I think not having that giant worthless ac box in the engine compartment makes it look tons better and makes it simpler. im right in the middle of re-wiring so if i do it i think now would be the time to do it.

Gut it all and buy a jacket :)

I'm getting ready to yank all of my HVAC stuff out when I re-work my dash... I'm just yanking it all and covering up the hole in the firewall...

Thats what im going to do. So far i have the heater out both heater lines out and i only have a 3 inch cut on my elbow a sore throat from cussing and numerous patches of skin missing along with various other cuts..i think she might be getting back at me for yankin her apart.

I don't see why you couldn't just cut up the existing box and rework it into something more compact since there wouldn't be an evaporator in there. Then you could leave all the wiring and vacuum lines alone. For the dash selector "Vent" and "Norm" would be the same thing and I think "Bi-Lev" and "Heat" might be the same, but who cares?

True but having that massive ac unit stuck in the firewall looks ugly and takes up room. Id rather take it all out and stick a simple heater in. That being said here's what i got done with today minus all the dam drama.

I had to take the dam inner fender well off to get to the bottom bolt. I think i may leave the inner fenders off.

I can cut up the box and its very simple to do.

But if i leave the rest of it inside then id be left with this under the dash -

So you don't want any heat or A/C? I thought you were just trying to delete A/C.

I dont want any A/C but ill be buying a mohave heater for it. I just didnt want to leave the ac in there if im not going to use it, i could use the space it takes up.
