Hey guys,

well the guy that i bought my blazer from claimed that the new system is retrofited and ready to be charged with r134a. Now i'm considering doing this job my self. one of the guys i work with has told me it's pretty simple to do, and that you really don't need the gauges. he said hook up a vacuum pump, get the air out of the system and then fill it up.

i'm just curious, how do i know if the system came with oil in it already? aslo, if i do get the gauges, what are the correct readings on them? anyone out there a ac tech?

thanks guys,

matt

i may have to take you up on this one. probally not this weekend, but maybe next weekend.

thanks

There are a lot of ways to do this. Usually I will run the vacuum at 19 inches and make sure it will hold it for about 20 minutes. This will ensure there is no moisture in the lines. Then when charging the system, use one can of PAG charging oil (you will lose some of the oil when vacuuming), then begin adding the refrigerant. If Jason has done this he should be able to help you set the max low side pressure to obtain optimum cooling.

Always good to have a certified guy close at hand for this type of work. I am not certified, just picked up lots of info from doing conversions on my own stuff, and a few other vehicles over time. Just a shadetree mechanic.
