My compressor went out on my 2600 mile road trip 100 miles from home and i was just going to replace it but i found original auto air. My system has already been upgraded to 134 and had been working great until it smoked. Is it worth it to upgrade to a new compressor? Have any of you guys done this upgrade? Or should I just replace with the new compressor and leave it alone?

Yes. The factory A6 is great compressor, but they have all been rebuilt too many times.
The R4 and 6 are garbage.
I put a redesigned A6 from Four Seasons on my 77, bolt in.
If you had an R compressor go with the Sanden style.

it looks like i have the r4. it was new 1.5 years ago, didnt impress me even new

Its an 88 with a vbelt on the compressor driver side high

Its rebuilt but all factory. Tbi with a mix of v belts and a serpentine belt

I thought the compressor got moved to passenger side by 88. the 88 kit might be gmt400 only. I would do a little checking and maybe a phone call before anything is ordered.

Finally got around to taking some pictures. Going to have to wait till next week to order anything as the company is in florida20220929_172923.jpg20220929_172930.jpg

I would be sure to call them, I vaguely remember those brackets. Air injection tube make them bulky. You could probably use the older A6 bracket style as well.
