Accelerator pedal issue

Since the extent of my one-owner 1989 K5's rust problem has made it un-roadworthy, I bought a cleaner, almost identically-optioned (except for having no factory air) 1990 model. Its only problem is that the accelerator pedal is very stiff, making for increased effort and therefore a less-comfortable ride than I've been accustomed to for the past 20 years with my other truck. Like the six-digit odometer (as opposed to the five-digit unit on my '89), is this typical of 1990 Blazers, or an imperfection that can be somehow remedied without creating a safety hazard? Thanks.

See how many return springs there are at the throttle body, and where they're attached to. Could be somebody moved the fixed end further away...or added a spring.

Possibly there is dirt and gunk in the throttle cable, or a sharp bend in it.

and if it's not that check to make sure the cables not in a bind. I've accidentally pinched the throttle cable when i put the air cleaner back on and the throttle stuck...:doah:

of course that was on a dodge

Remove the cable from the TBI, see if it smooths out. Disconnect from the pedal, see if that makes a difference.

When I converted my 81 Chevy to TBI in December I had a similar issue, either a stiff pedel and full throttle opening or easy peddle operation with only 60% throttle opening. My remedy, I removed the 3 screws that held the peddle assembly to the floorpan, carefully examined how the peddle and lever operated, used my Dremel to grind off a small movement limiter, got 3 one inch longer screws that had the same thread, put a 1" spacer block below the peddle assembly and remounted it to the floor pan. The spacer allowed a longer peddle throw which gave 100% throttle opening at a lighter peddle pressure. Yes , I connected to the throttle body at a different location than factory. Works perfect, no problems.

I had a very stiff accelerator pedal until today, I put on a new accelerator cable and now I have a very smooth, easy gas pedal. The old cable moved freely when out of the truck, but must have been binding up somehow. Hope this helps. For $17 its worth a try.
