Accelerator pedal problem

Hey everyone,
This isn't on my Blazer but I was hoping someone here could help me out because it seems like a simple fix that I just can't figure out.
I replaced the throttle cable on my girl friends '78 Camaro because the old one wasn't cutting it. With the new cable in place I don't have enough pedal to open it all the way up, when the pedal is on the floor I only have about 1/4 throttle.
I have the cable as tight as it will go, I still don't have enough. Anyone have any suggestions?

I had that problem too. Couldnt fix it wortha crap, ended up taking the pedal out and bending it a little.

I tried one of those brackets that mounts to the carb studs and lets you adjust where the throttle cable mounts, and that helped a little, but bending the pedal rod itself was the only way to make it work completely. Before the bracket I could hit maybe 50%, after maybe 75%, then after the bending I can go to 99% (just enough slack so I dont bend the linkage).

Are you sure you have the correct cable? IIRC the cable for a 2bbl versus a 4bbl carb are different. I used to have a 76 camaro so i know a little about these.

I bought the cable from Oreilly's and it matches my old cable in length except for how it mounts to the carburetor. I'm 99% it is the right cable.
Seems like bending it is a good idea, that or would a pedal spacer off the firewall work?

DO NOT bend the cable otherwise it will bind on you. Can you post a pic of what the ends look like since you said the carb end is different.

I wasn't going to bend the cable, I was going to bend the pedal.
The only difference is what stud I use off the carburetor. The old one had the kind that slips on over the ball and is held on by tension from the clip.
The new one slips over a smooth stud with a recess in it for a retaining clip.

a word of caution, if you should choose to bend, do it a little at a time, then reinstall and check it. Make sure that it is buried flat on the floor and that you can still twist the linkage just the SLIGHTEST bit. Otherwise you could bend the linkage later on down the road if you jam it down and then it could hang wide open. That happened to me once before with a friggin floor mat, wanna talk scary as crap? Brakes dont do a thing to hold back a 496 at WOT

You sure the kickdown cable isn't what's holding it up? Cable stretch may have introduced some other issues with a new cable.
