Since I bought my truck, my accelerator has been hard to push down. When it finally moves, it suddenly gives way and the engine revs up pretty high. I have replaced the original 2bbl carb with a new 4bbl Edelbrock so I don’t think the problem is at the carb. Any suggestions about what the problem might be and how to solve it? It is really annoying. I am happy to upgrade to a improved accelerator system if folks have anything to recommend.

Thanks in advance for your help.

type of truck? year? pictures?

I've had several square body chevy's with this issue and it was the throttle cable... but you might do better to post some more info for everyone here

Sorry - good question! 1974 GMC Jimmy. Will post some pictures later today.

I vote for the accelerator cable too. Either it’s dry and you need to pour some lube in it or it’s worn a groove in the sheath and needs to be replaced. Try the simple and free fix first.

Check Throttle cable... had an 83 c10 and this would happen. Scared the shizz outta me when it first happened...
Replace or pull it and lube it with some atf

Sometimes the cable gets routed wrong and there is unnecessary tension on it. So while you’re inspecting it’s condition, also consider it’s path
