can anyone advise if you get to the radio by removing the dash, or going up from the climate control head area? if through the dash top, how does it come off?

lay on your back and reach up from the bottom.just pick your way through the heater cables and wires.a headlamp helps!is this a 2 post(original) or a din unit?

yeah, through the bottom. you'd have to go through the bottom to get the dashpad off anyway... and it doesn't improve access. :doah:

if its really a pain, you could remove the glovebox insert, but its not really necessary.

yeah, it just seems tight with those big air duct hoses. i took out the phillips screws holding the rubber part of the dash, but i see that was a dead end waste of time.

this is a replacement radio with two posts. the dash was never cut, but i am thinking of cutting it to fit in a removable face radio with CD and MP3.

This is the junk i want to change out:

wow a casette player, i bet high school kids these days dont even know what that is.

just unscrew the nuts on each post and the radio should push into the dash.after that you can snake it down to underneath the dash to unhook the wiring harness.just dont break an air duct!you can unhook one or two to make the job easier, especially the one leading up to your center dash vent.

Man I just did this! I'm still doing it to be honest! I pull one radio, a factory look a like and replaced it with a factory one... Thought about cutting the dash but I couldn't bring me self to do it. I pulled the ash tray, Ac/heater controls. It made it easier but still a pain in the $:)&@)! Found a couple of broke vent hoses... Or maybe I broke them?! Now I'm replacing everything under the dash, vents, vacuum hoses, control unit and the list goes on. I put a nice Cd player iPod hookup in the console. It's out of the weather and I didn't have to cut my dash. I can take a picture if you would like. Good luck!

does the kenwood work? and it has a nut on each shaft, then drop it down through the bottom.

The kenwood is broken. I can't find a direct fit placement with USB MP3 support and a remote control, so i will wind up cleanly cutting the dash. I can get a JVC on sale around me for $69 to slip in there.
