Been jonesing for a sports car and the blazer isn’t scratching the need and I’m wearing out on wrenching on it. Did some soul searching and talked to the wife. Went and signed on a 2016 Camaro SS with the 2ss package. Got 85k miles. Not even 10k miles a year. No accidents. Spent its whole life within an hour of where I live. Fully loaded. It’s very tight. Runs great. No leaks. Only two pics I got today. I’m going to pick it up tomorrow. My 6yo boy has been begging for a Camaro and neither him nor my daughter (who loves going fast) have any idea I bought it. I’m gonna pick them up from school in it tomorrow.

Brought her home today. 80mph down the highway with one finger on the wheel. She runs awesome and is tight. Found the service records and she’s been well maintained. Calling her Svetlana because she’s going to bleed me dry and I’m going to love every second of it.

8spd auto. I wrestled over this one but ultimately I’m lazy and I’ve got nothing to prove so I went with auto. The people around here take half a mile (no joke I’ve clocked it) to get to 45mph so driving stick just wouldn’t be fun.

So far I’ve pulled the fuse to leave the active exhaust baffles open, removed the front license plate, and found a previous owners AFM/DOD device and plugged it in. Tomorrow I’ll probably get bored and the sting of today’s financial decisions will have subsided and I’ll buy the HPTuner credits and start playing with a few things.

No I didn’t crack the splitter. It was that way and part of the deal was they are going to replace it. Just waiting for it to come in and get it scheduled.

I love it, it's my daily and I have some great roads I commute on. The wheels are American Racing TTF. 20x11 rear, 20x9.5 front with 285/35/20 front and 305/30/20 rear.

It was glorious. Pulled up to the school and the wife went to pick them up and they came out and were wondering where her car was. Then I rolled the window down. My daughter got a bit emotional. They both kept thanking me for a while and my son wanted to hang with dad the rest of the night which is his way of saying thanks.

Bought the tuning credits and turned off the dod//afm, removed the tc slip crap, and stopped it from locking up below 6th gear. Much nicer to drive around. I’ll get a real tune eventually but for now this works.

My son's 17 1SS seriously needs some tuning for the transmission.

Anymore these days that’s what I prefer to have worked on. The engine power is eh but the transmission tuning is where it’s at.

Sweet car!

That thing is begging for a supercharger and some headers. I know a guy.... :rotfl:

It's awesome that your kids are thanking you for buying a Camaro. :coolblue:

Don't think the thought hasn't crossed my mind and you will be getting a call in the next year for when I get ready to upgrade the exhaust haha.

My kids enjoy cool cars and going fast. Especially when dad is pulling 1g turns into the neighborhood.

The traction on this thing is comically bad. Was accelerating from a stop sign doing a sharp 90* left and every time the transmission shifted the traction control light was coming on. It's sporting Continental Extreme Contact tires on it also that aren't bald. It's a bit unnerving as well. Went to pass someone and I jumped on the throttle, not full but a few gear downshift, at 45mph and it kicked the rear end out.

Got a tuning bug I'm researching now. I'm getting a flare between either 1-2 and//or 2-3 under light throttle. Feels like it gets stuck between the gears on the change for a second and then slams in. Not an uncommon thing once you've updated the tune on them I'm learning. So I get to start logging and tweaking shift times and torque management.

Why can't I leave things alone?

I think these newer multi speed transmissions don't use roller clutches like the old 2-4 speeds, which basically when one clutch engaged it just over runs a roller.

With these new ones I believe the timing has to be correct for one clutch to release while the other one engages, a lot more finicky.

Now the roller clutches could be a source of failure, so they both have their advantages. I've never rebuild a modern 6 - 10 speed auto.

Something like that. Shift timing is real critical on these transmissions as is fill time for the clutches. Add in the adaptives they all use that have be relearned and it just makes things complicated.

On the flip side, these things shift quick, firm, and perfectly when you hammer down on them. I've got zero complaints on that.
