Who here has managed to add a winch to the stock front bumper? And/or do you have links to such a build/page?

No links but seems like I remember someone doing this using a TNA cradle under a factory bumper.

The front bumper itself isn't strong enough for a winch, but I've seen a couple trucks use a Warn front receiver with a winch cradle that slides into it.

I thought someone on here made a winch fit behind the factory bumper. From what I can remember they used a universal winch mount pan like from Harbor Freight and fitted it between the frame rails. Then he just kinda pulled the from center section of the factory bumper to give it clearance. He cut a slot where the front license plate goes and mounted the fairlead. Now how that was mounted and supported I have no idea.

lic plate was bolted to same shape plate . the plate had 2 pipe clip clamps on it to clip to the roller fairlead .

The winch has to be mounted to the frame. I have an old-school Ramsey winch with their frame mount kit which does hide behind a stock bumper:

and then there's a hole cut through the center (ish) for the fairlead

I am not aware of such a kit for current style winches, however -- this kit is for a specific, nonstandard mounting.

You need a Warn trans4mer, center grill guard (a) and winch carrier plate (c). It will look very similar to what Dremu posted but the winch will be up between the grill guard, not down behind the bumper. The brush guards to protect your headlights are optional.

You can just make it out on the front of my blazer.

I've got a warn grill guard on the 80. Not sure how crazy I'd get winching with it, doesn't seem the strongest.

It was off a 81+ style, had to trim/reweld the lower mounts for it to fit right.

I would think that you could use the harbor freight universal winch mount behind the stock k5 bumper, might have to modify the winch mount but I think it could be done, my buddy used that harbor freight mount and we had to trim it up some but it now sits behind the front bumper of his 93 land cruiser, it looks great.

On my suburban, I welded a piece of 5/8 plate on top of the frame, right under the core support. I have an m8000 mounted upside down (feet up), that just barely fits. The fairlead is bolted to the bumper, in place of the licsense plate. I planned on reinforcing the bumper for the fairlead, but never did, and really have not seen a reason too.

That really just mounts to the front bumper bolts? Don't think I'd winch off that.

Yeah they do.

Prob wouldn't wanna get to carried away with winching off it.

This one comes to mind:

You could always just bolt it in place of the license plate like this sweet parts Blazer I drug home.
