So I think my in tank fuel pump took a ****. I can hear it turn on with the key, but the truck is not starting. I dumped a little fuel down the tbi and it fired right up, ran a few seconds, and then died. Tomorrow I am going to unbolt a line and see if fuel is getting through. My question is I really don't want to drop the tank. My Suburban is from Michigan, and rusty as hell. It's so bad that we just cut off the old spring hangers and welded the shackle flip on. Can I just graft a in-line fuel pump before the filter? Will it work if I leave the old dead pump in the tank? And yes I checked the fuel filter, I just installed a new one today.

And there are lots of reasons that your truck won't get fuel that have nothing to do with the fuel pump.

If the pump turns on but nothing comes out, the rubber hose between the pump and the output port might have a hole worn in it. Once the fuel level goes below the hole, the pump can't push any fuel up the line.
