Was reading a thread on one of my other forums about people stealing gas but punching holes in the gas tanks. We have pretty good coverage on the bottom, but what about the sides. Has anyone added any steel to the sides? Im seriously considering this. Probably some 1/8" steel or 3/16" I think 1/4" would be over kill and add too much weight.

Does anyone see any issues with welding some side panels to the skid plate?

Nope not at all, in fact I would think side panels would only help. On the older skidplates the side panels are already there

You would probably be far smarter to put a drain plug in your gas tank. If someone is going to steal your gas, it'll be easy for them to get in a big truck, and will cost you a lot less to repair if you make it easy for them to steal it.

I'd far rather put a plug back in than have to repair a tank ... if I was that paranoid! ;)

Besides, they will probably just tear off your gas cap and siphon it that way.

My stock, flat, skid plate holds a bunch of dirt and water and road grime and $hit, and mine RARELY makes it off the pavement.

I would be concerned to do something like that without adequate drainage....and at that point, you've got holes tehy can use. I'd skip it.

Yea, ive thought about that. one idea I had was to leave a small gap at the bottom edges of the side panel. Just enuff for water to get out but not enuff to get a screw driver in there. Dunno. still thinking. lol.

Know what you mean, but anything small enough to keep a screwdriver out will hold rocks, gravel, dirt.

I have a locking cap, and alarm. If someone wants to punch a hole......they can have it.
