I have a 02' 4L80E that I am going to be putting a 241C behind and my PSI Conversion harness requires me to use the rear output sensor. How difficult is it to break one of these transmissions down to add that rear reluctor ring? Transmission shops around here want about $300.00 but they would rather do a rebuild on the trans and that's currently out of my budget to get this thing done. Any good tips or should I fork out the $300.00 and let them do it? :dunno:

I don't know anything about this conversion, but if this ring is really an extra part that can just be slapped in, doing the teardown to add it is a lot less work than a complete rebuild. Most of the subassemblies can be left together, the valve body wouldn't have to be torn down, etc. If you've done automatic transmission work before, it shouldn't be too bad. For a shop to do it, that $300 doesn't really surprise me. You might find somebody who could do the job on the side for less, though.

Also, what about the cost of selling this transmission and buying one with the sensor already installed?

The 1990 241 and up has a reluctor wheel as the speedometer is electric.

almost full tear down of the case is required.

the price of the ring used or new + a basic seal/gasket kit + labor & shop you TRUST FOR QUALITY WORK

as said your 241 should have electric speedo unless early 1-2 year or slip yoke eliminator kit on it .

or your harness / programmer for the swap is doing just tranny controls and no 4wd option for it . in this case you will need the rear sensor / tone ring hole .

Yeah, the TC speed sensor won't work when it's in 4LO. The controller wants to know the output speed of the transmission and dividing by 2.7 or whatever is going to mess up shift points to unusable levels. Plus, what are the pulse rates of these sensors - maybe they're not even the same.

fyi tcase sensor is how factory does it .

so this means the harness/program is going to run the tranny as a 2wd and not let it know its 4wd.

this is why the need to add the tone ring in the tranny .

if you could get them to reflash the pcm it might be a whole lot cheeper in the end. and add in the 4wd switch wires so pcm knows its in 4wd.
