Ok I did some research on this first! Post I used was from roadie114 and started on 6/6/12. I followed blaznjon instructions on adjusting tailgate latch open tailgate closes both latches, line up holes in latch, loosen the bad idea left hand thread bolt and pull most of slack out of both rods then tighten up.
I did that but with new seals on tailgate I can not reopen it when shut fully less I pull manually on both rods.
So what is the fix cause I need and want access cover for tailgate back on.

I've had more than one tailgate where the actuator rod from the latch itself was bent/weak, and it would deflect. the tab is pushes against is another weak area. Both can be beefed up if you have a welder.

I have to chest bump my tailgate while i pull the handle to get it to open. Guess I need to follow this thread too. lol.

had no problems before seal was installed and before the dreaded left hand bolt broke and figured drill it and install regular bolt.

Tried searching here and local for used latch and new latch with no damn luck!

I have an extra tailgate, you can have what ever out of it you need. It opened and closed fine when I took it off about a year ago.
I don't think I'm to far from you. I'm in Rock Hill.

Handle on the inside of my tailgate had a lot of play in it. The actuator rod from the handle to the latch rods was bent, as a consequence there wasn't a lot of pull on the latch rods. I pulled that rod out and straightened it out and reinforced it. Probably need to check that.

I've torn into it a few times trying to make it easier to open. My only results are to conclude that the better the tailgate seats in the seals, the higher the effort required to unlatch. So the quick and easy fix is to back off the latches on the truck a bit. I still do the chest bump thing while pulling the handle with both hands (the chest bump takes a bit of the pressure off the latches. My wife can't open it. I remember beefing up the handle pull bracket at some point because I bent it from pulling hard. So if somebody has a story of going from handle really hard to pull to easy, let us know. Oh, and are you getting the latches to the first click or the second?

Check papal I sent little extra been so Busy have not had much time to do anything on the Blazer.
Well tonight I installed latch looks and fits same so good there man. Thanks again! Now the driver side rod you sent was hair shorter so could not use but passenger side was same.ow comes new problem I guess. I had taken tailgate off at the body under the truck when I Raptor lined it and the driver side is not grabbing inside piece to keep it shut tight and when you pull inside handle up to unlatch it the handle rubs tailgate and will not release it. So I have to reach in and pull on rods to
get it to fully open. Open to any ideas from members as I want to finsih this tailgate up and few other misc items to get back to driving and using it.
