I am replacing my timing chain, is MAW deal. My new chain has 9 settings. The only one I am considering is advance cam 2°. My thought is this would bring the power band down into a lower rpm. I haven't found a situation where I needed more than 3600 rpm, thou I haven't spent much time in low range. 3600 rpm is 3rd gear 65 mph, and pulls strong. Towing climbing grades. Timed at straight up.

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-1102 is the cam in this engine. truck info Heavy, 4.88 rp. 33's-35's, high compression 355cu in, q jet, stock cast iron heads and intake, 700r4, 1600 stall.

What are your thoughts and experiences.
I did degree this cam when installed over 2 decades ago, no idea where my notes and plot is. can't even find the cam card.

Idk, it’s possible your cam was already 2* either way with the old setup. I would re-run your degree wheel with it straight up and see where it’s at stock

If you have the wheel you can read where it’s at. Most cams are ground offset these days

I do, but top of engine closed up, and I don't have time or will to degree it in the truck.
So I guess it goes straight up, they way it ran before.

Oh this cam is 1993 or older. I been thinking 97 for this engine, but remembering how old my kids were when it was built it is 30 years old.

Pretty clean for 30 years. Regular maintenance will get you that.
Did daily duty until late 2011.
I hate that 93 was 30 years ago…

You ain't wrong...

I haven't yet I have a couple of projects in front, and may be traveling a bit this winter. Prob end up doing a week before BB24 lol
