Well my rig's built for trails and does pretty well. I never even venture in to the mud because we really have no pits here. Two weeks from now i'm going in some local mud drags. I was gonna watch but my kids want to run it. I know my rig is underpowered for mud and too lowwith probably only 4 " lift due too old flexi springs. I'm not doing any mods for this but if you guys have any tips like tire pressure, what gear to run in or anything else, help me out. I know the guy running it and I'm assuming the length and depth will be close to whatever the mud drag standard is. Specs of my rig are in my sig. Diff gears are 410's.

The key is to keep your momentum. never let off the throttle. Ive only driven a manuel Blazer a couple times in the mud, I found second gear 4x4 LO to be the best in mud. This was with stock gears, and 36's

i ran mine alot with a stock 350, 4spd, 4:10s and 37s, high range 2nd gear works good if the mud isnt too thick, if its thick then low range and 2nd, i kept it at the 4000 rpm range and just kept churning till it made it, work the wheel right and left to keep it moving and watch your temp........now tho with my motor done up, 456s, locked at both ends, more lift and 39s i can go in 3rd gear at 5000 in high and it pulls great

Just curious but when you guys say 2nd gear which labeling are you refering to? L-1-2-3 or 1-2-3-4?

I have always ran a t400 trans and 208tc with a sbc ran in low and low. Now having to shift with bb. Most mudders here w/man trans. run in 2nd and low lock. As rob h said keep a close watch on TEMP and keep the skinny pedal down. When (and if) it starts to crawl saw on the wheel to get that last foot. You should do fine with both ends locked and 38s. I try to run 12 -15 pds air with 44 tsls.

How about tire pressure's. I normally run 10 front 8 rear.
Put the max pressure in them to get all the height out of them as you can.
Around here you would be on the small size for the class you would have to run in 38-44 class, so you will need all the axle clearence you can get

I RUN MY SM465 IN THICK STUF 4LO 2-3 DEPENDING ON MY MOMENTUM IF IT SLOWS ME DOWN ALOT THEN 2 BUT IF I CAN KEEP GOIN THEN 3 AND REALLY SPIN-EM. O AN TRY TO STAY OUT OF THEM RUTS:doah: TRY TO KEEP THAT FILTER CLEAN OR SNORKLE IT IF YOU CAN :D EATHER WAY IM SURE YOU KIDS WILL LOVE THE FLYIN MUD!!!:D

sweet brother!!:D trukker is right on filling up as much as possible in ruts.i would get my 40s to 42s.:laugh:in sloppy mud it's big power, big tires and speed.a few picks from my DAD's.some of the rigs that show up.i have a few vids on my cam, but it won't load them?? anyway, mud is fun till clean up time.:haha:
