OK, long story short I had a 74 nova I sold that the dude hasnt paid for yet and now he wont answer phone calls at all.

Im thinking I might go repo the car but the more I think about it I dont know if I want it back.

There is LOTS of rust. The fenders and one door are useable/fixable.

The other door has a crease along its entire length that also goes the length of the quarter panel, however that whole quarter should be replaced, along with half the pass side quarter. Also needed are both the inner and outer wheelhouses, trunk floor patched, and the truck floor drop offs that connect to the quarters.

I would also need to eventually need to replace alot of the floors because I did a half assed job fixing them when I got the car:doah:.

I know this sounds like alot, and it is, but the car is good enough that it could be fixed, just not sure if I want to go through the work and expense to fix it when I could possibly buy a better car for what I would be into this for sheetmetal alone.

The rear frame rails and rockers are actually rock solid... yes weird for a Mn car. Im just on the fence with this. I have always liked the novas but the 74, even with the 72 front clip on it isnt doin it for me, however it is possible to retrofit the 72 and earlier quarters on the 73 and 74's:crazy:.

I would much rather have a 1972 or earlier one, just better bodylines overall, and alot more aftermarket support.

What do you guys think? Would I just be wasting my time restoring the car? theres always the backhalf and 4 link option...:wink1:

If it were me i would cut my losses from the sound of shape the car is in and focus on buying something better. You could always try and reach the guy and offer him to give you $200.00 instead of $400.00 and call it good at least this way you get half of what you sold it for.

Regardless of if you want it back, he hasn't paid. I wouldn't want to just give a car away unless I knew the person. But if my intention was to sell it, then I would want my money to go find the other car I wanna buy. Just my .02 though

Honestly !!!, what were you thinking to not get any money when you sold it ? Do you know this person ?

what else you got for sale :D

I sold a 89' S10 Blazer to a friend of mine for what I thought was a smoking price for what it was, but never received payment (for 2 years!). Even though the money wasn't hurting me, I'm a man of principle and it just annoyed the piss out of me that I was getting taken advantage of. I ended up approaching him about it and "repo'ing" it... the blazer is now sitting in my field rotting...

Moral of the story: 1) get money upfront prior to letting whatever it is for sale out of your sight, 2) don't lend money (or the equivalent of) to family or friends... it rarely turns out good.

Now, the second part of this, now that the Nova is gone (similar to the state I was in with my Blazer), if you don't intend on doing anything with it - cut your losses! I've got a wonderful 'lawn ornament' (my wife is so happy with me) that I'm going to eventually take to the scrap yard... I probably won't get back what I have invested in fuel to go get the damn thing!

You really gave your car to some guy without getting any money???? I just don't get it. :dunno:

The guy was a good friend or so I thought. I had done stuff like this with him before and never gotten screwed.

Half of it was trading 2 engines, which I have, a 305 that was supposed to be a 327 and a 350 that I find has a cracked block.

Maybe Ill just show up with some friends and a trailer for show.

EDIT: And I wont be selling stuff without cash up front to anyone ever after this.

You got it. Don't sell to anyone without without money in hand. Now, that being said I always sell stuff back and forth with my best friend. We've been friends for over 39 years now, and I know he's good for it. We always make stuff right for each other, one way or another.
I'll fix his junk, (get his vehicles running) when he is in a bind. and he'll foot the bill for lunch a few times, or pay my portion of a car we buy together than we'll fix it up and sell it and split the dough.
But, we are more Brothers than most brothers are.

This guy needs a good beat down. Screwed you on 3 deals so far???? He needs to meet your little friend Louisville.:wink1: I would never let chit like this stand.

regardless of the outcome of the car, you need to get your ass off the title, for liability reasons. You are the responsible party, unless you have proof of ownership transfer.

I'd say just talk to him about it and let him know you either want the money or the car. Express your concerns about not being paid and your name being on the title of a car not in your possession. See if he's got anything worth trading. If not, go get the car, you can always get rid of it cheap.

I've been there. Had a seemingly good friend move away with a great shape set of 31" muds he was going to buy from me. Times were tough and all so I let it slide until he got this promotion...then he moved away and never called again, ever.:doah: $400 worth of tires...ouch.

I've got damn few friends I'll do anything like this for but I know the few of them that there are will pay me back or know they owe me in good faith. Anybody else...no such luck.

Ok, I found this car the other night. I can swing the price right now, but I would have to be really carefull with the other finances as Im currently a full time student, and only working part time.

I cant help but think I need to jump on this ASAP, as with the economy and all I dont know when I will ever have a chance like this again, and Ive wanted one of these cars since I can remember. I almost bought a 4 door 57 in high school for the same price, but I just cant get this car out of my head.

I think fuk the nova, and call this guy. What say you guys?

From what he says in the ad i would run away fast. Floor pan was replaced but not welded to the rockers because they need to be replaced. Sure there's no rust in the car now that he has cut it all out and left someone else to finish the "project". Sorry but IMO that is a huge red flag to run away very fast.

Scott, You're exactly right, that car is probably the redneck hack job from hell undeneath. Look at the quaters, about where the wheelwells are, it looks like he welded right to the side of the quarter. The dude probably messed that car up more than he fixed it.

I just got so excited seeing one I could afford that I didnt read between the lines. Those cars are so rare around here, not to mention reasonably priced ones, I just need to concentrate on school, and keeping the junk I have now running, not a hot rod.
