All,
I have 35 spline outers (stock spicers) in my K30 D60, and I snapped one of them on my last outing. Sheared it near the ears on the outer stub....
Anyway, I carry spares already, but I'd like to beef up.

So the question is, should I get the Yukons, or should I just go whole hog and get the Longfields? I am not made of money, but for 1200 bucksyou are getting the full Yukon setup from Randy's and it is only 1800 for the full deal longfields.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Dan

When I bought 35 spline stubs Yukon immediately was out of the question. Their quality control is all over the place and I had heard lots of bad stuff.

I went with Alloy USA and haven't broken anything since so I can't comment on their strength (I'm still running Spicer inners and joints).

Talk to PORC, I'm sure you can get Alloy USA inners, outers and their Alloy USA's x-joint for under $1K. Randy's isn't always the cheapest by any stretch, Alloy USA makes better stuff for just a little more $$ than Yukon IMO.

I'd like to hear opinions on stubs as well. I am going to upgrade from 30 splines soon and was just going to buy spicers and warn hubs but this threads got me thinkin.

I'll 2nd the Alloy USA shafts. Yukon shafts suck and I know several people who broke them.

what about Superiors?

They cost more than twice what Alloy USA shafts do and that put them out of the question for me.

They're supposed to be the best short of CTM shafts or Longfield's CV setup but I have heard of some issues with them lately.

I ordered my D60 35 spline ALLOYUSA axles on Dec. 10 and to date have only recieved the inners about a month after I ordered the set. So the lead time for them is no better then Superior's IMHO. I ordered them from a vendor on Pirate that had no bad comments in the bad vendor forum and is one of the seamingly main axle suppliers on that site. Needless to say Im NOT happy about the wait .

I ordered my Alloy USA outers back in August and got them in less than a week

You can always ask the vendor and/or Alloy USA about the lead time (mine were shipped directly from Alloy USA).

how about the spicer u joints???are the lonfield or ctm u joints nessary??yall know the specs of my rig

In the rocks you could definitely break Spicer 35 spline shafts or 1480 joints with 40"+ tires. I haven't yet, but you never know. Plenty of people out there that have broken joints and Spicer 35 spline shafts on 44's.

IMO Alloy USA shafts with Lonfield joints is a great compromise between strength and cost.

Thought for sure I replied yesterday but I don't see it anywhere......anyway.

I've only seen 1 Spicer 35-spline stub actually break between two trucks both running moderate big blocks and 42's. The on that broke had been beat on under a 7,000 lb. rig for several years, and the spindle bearing was trashed and had grooved the shaft out some right where it broke. However on both trucks there were issues with wearing out the yokes (wallowed out around the u-joint caps).

I've personally broken an old necked down inner, two 30-spline Spicer stubs, and twisted a 3rd stub with 13/38-16 TSL's. I now have 35-spline Yukons, Spicer joints, Spicer non-neck inners. The guy who broke the 35-spline stub now has 35-spline Yukons and Longfield joints. He hasn't broke anything yet but has found some splines twisted.
