The cab on my 74 k10 isnt in the best of shape, so I have one in great shape from an 84 that I am going to swap on. The front clip will be removed and possibly the doors. How have you guys done your cab swaps?

73-80 = 1 set of body mounts frame side.
81-87-91 = 1 set of cab mounts frame side.

body mounts are frame specific not body specific.

i have 2 trucks 73-80 vintage with 85 and 87 body on them. just used 73-80 mounts and all worked fine.

81-up started weld in floor pans. no unbolt of center floor hump. so if you swap on a 2wd cab low hump floor you need to modify the floor pan or run a min of a 2" body lift like i did .

also its a little easyer to modify 81-up cab to 73-80 body front end. but hard to modify 73-80 cab to 81-up body front end.

My 74 used to be a 2wd that I made 4wd...so I already have a 2" body lift and plan to reuse it with my 84 2wd cab. Let me reword my question. How are you guys actually swapping your cabs? Having buddies over just to pick it up, using A-frame and a hoist, putting boards under the rockers with jacks and sliding the frame out? The trucks are in my shop which is 13ft to the bottom of the rafters, its no problem for something to go up above that point a bit as long as it is in between rafters. The 84 has no motor, so raising the cab and rolling its chassis out will be relatively easy. The 74 is a running driving truck so would it be easier to remove its bed and roll the chassis under the cab from the front? Thanks guys for any replies or advice.

By the way, I am updating a bit and am going to use the 84's front clip also.

Just did mine a couple months ago. I stuck a 6X6 across the rafters and used a chain hoist to pick it up and set on the rolling frame. Honestly, it was extremely simple and the chain hoist made life easy. I ran a strap through the cab (no doors on it) and picked from the middle.
