Hey all,

I am in the middle of a rebuild on a 350 motor. Originally I was going to use the factory head until I found a small crack on a valve seat that would take a significant amount of machine work.

I am running a flat top piston, 30 over, upgraded intake, 650 cfm holley carb, and will get a decent power adding cam. I have access to 2 guys who are absolute engine nuts. One has built over 30 350 motors. Of course he is retired and can afford a $3000 set of heads. I am needing to stay around $750.00 to keep my budget.

where should I look? I know several places that are good for jeep heads, but I am looking at an entry level Aluminum head from a couple different places for the $700 range. There are several on ebay... Thanks a ton for the help. Just want to build my first engine right.

Then save up some more money and buy a set of AFR 180 heads, they are the best hands down. A set will cost you about $1500

If you want to do it right the first time I woudl stay away from the chinese eBay heads. The extra $200 for a good set of heads are worth it. Edlebrocks aren't much more, or you could spend a little more yet and get some Dart/Brodix/AFR.

You could run a set of Vortecs, depending your can lift, but then you`d need a Vortec spec. intake. Keep your eye on CL, seem to be some good deals around. I have seen Edelbrock one`s on CL.

With that budget, the iron World Products heads arent too far away, but I agree with Scott on the AFR's. I havent used them myself yet, but if I ever need more than used 882's can give me thats where I would probably start. Is there a reason you want aluminum heads, or is it just a "might as well" type of deal?

As much as everyone likes the vortecs... the fact that they are a lightweight casting and are more likely to crack because of it, is a deal breaker for me. Not to mention the cost of the intake on top of what the heads cost.
