I've been modifying and cleaning up some stuff and have my coolant tank out. A few things are going on: I got a replacement battery tray that matches factory except that it doesn't have the mount holes for the coolant tank. :dunno: Also, the tank itself looks terrible and is basically opaque at this point - and filled with sludge.

So I'd like to replace the tank. I was wondering if anyone has had luck with a universal from summit? Maybe I could mount a cylindrical shaped one to the single mounting stud I have left or something. It sort of hinges on how much volume I need. The factory overflow is quite huge but I've never noticed if it actually gets used. Anyone know?

If I need to I guess I'll either drill and tap my new battery tray, or weld some nuts on it.

mid 80's up to 91 had inner fender mounted one. i run them and like them best.

part #23 http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cc/full.aspx?Page=55

Yeah, I currently have that factory one, but it has 3 holes for mounting, two of which are intended to attach to the battery tray. The battery tray I got from Rock Auto doesn't have the mounts. My original tray got rusty at the lower mount point and broke when I removed it.

Just make sure you know what you want and not to confuse an overflow tank with a recovery tank as they are different.

nooooo

#23 is a inner fender top mount and is no were near the batt tray .

Oh, okay. I have 21 I guess. It wedges between battery tray and radiator basically. I don't think I have space on my driver's fender since I put all my electrical stuff there (dual battery controls and relays for fans and lights).

I think I'll just punt and try to scrub out my old one and then remove my battery tray and drill holes in it...

#23 goes on the pass inner fender not the drivers side.

Listen to this man.

You can pick up a cheap universal recovery tank at you local parts store for under $15.

Most of them you connect to the bottem of the tank. this is the important part.
