so ive been thinking about getting aftermarket shackles for the front of my k5, i was looking at ones that were 2in longer then stock and gave about 1in lift. but talking to some guys at work with chevys and have had a few of them tell me that it will give me hell with my pinion angle and handle horrible on the road, anyone else have experience or knowledge about this?

Extra long shackles on the front mean less stability (assuming they aren't tied together), they will give too much caster and they will make your front pinion angle much worse.

The only reason ours are .5" longer than stock is to keep the spring eye from hitting the frame.

I have longer shackles on my k5. They flex the frame alot when turning. I have 8 degree shims under the springs to combat it. You can see them flexing the frame from the extra leverage they introduce. Needless to say I'm taking mine out and either adding a zero rate or just lowering the truck.

yep i have the ord ones.no problems and tightened the front end up real nice.plus they are thicker than stock and bump up the bolt size.poly bushing and coated for rust protection.if you want a inch of lift get a zero rate.it will ride much better and not mess with the front end angle geometry as much.

I had diy4x build me some crosstied 2" longer ones for the front of K20, couldnt tell any difference in frame flex, I was happy.

FYI - at some point in the later years of the K5 the factory shackles were 1/2" longer than earlier versions and thus the same length as the ORD versions. My '90 is like this as the ORD shackles are identical length to the stock ones.

If it's a GM D44 the knuckles are the same between a 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton.

the knuckle it self is, but the lug pattern is what im talking about. i just trying to make sure you guys carry 8 lug version as well as the 6

only major diffrence from 6lug to 8 lug on dana 44 or 10 bolt is spindle out if you have a old style early 70's with small bearing spindle.

so yes like he said same knuckle 6 or 8 lug bolt pattern.

only thing is your tie rod is it on top or bottom now ?

You are confusing everybody. The knuckle has nothing to do with it being 6 or 8 lug so there are not 6 or 8 lug knuckles. If you are looking to change hubs just pick up a set at the junkyard.

8 lug knuckles, as in your spindle bolts on with 8 holes? Or you have 8 lug hubs?

All Chevy spindles bolt to the knuckle with six bolts, regardless of whether they are 6 or 8 lugs at the wheel.

There are some D44 knuckles with 8 spindle stud holes for Scouts I believe and I don't think there is any aftermarket knuckles for those.
