I have put a hault on my 87 blazer build but looking forward on starting up again since it's more than half way done. I'm looking into getting the DIY4X dash and will need some help on which gauges to get, mechanical or electric. My engine is a 383 stroker with a holley so no efi. Tranny is a R700 so there is a mechanical cable for the speedometer, thinking of running a tach, water temp, oil temp and oil pressure, trans temp( should a run a switch for different temp reading? At cooler and tranny?) Clock, fuel. I'm tired of dealing with the old gauges and once it's up and running just want to do maintenance. Please give your thoughts and advice on brand and line of gauges. Thank you in advance.

Autometer electrics. Speedo, tach, water, oil pressure, volt, tranny temp (I prefer hot line out of trans but it's six of one half a dozen of another).

Most makers these days offer GPS speedos-which can be convenient if you don't want to worry about that speedo cable or dealing with tire changes.

Didn't look into how they work, is it easy to install?
Yep. Generally it's just an antenna that can pick up the satellite signal and it plugs into your compatible speedometer. As with any time you measure speed with a GPS there may be a slight lag with speed changes, but it's not too bad. It's a good option if you don't have a ready-made electronic speed signal or when you're doing a swap and don't have a provision for a speedometer cable.
