Im currently in the search for aftermarket headers for my stock 350 tbi engine. Problem is I cant find any that have the inlet for the 02 sensor. Everything ive seen on summit and jeggs do not have the provisions for it.

Very quick search, only found these: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/jba-1830s-5jt/overview/year/1988/make/chevrolet/model/blazer

They are EO approved. And not cheap because of it. Don't let people tell you that increasing regulation doesn't increase cost to the consumer.

most O2 sensors, on a TBI engine, are located in the Y-pipe. I am going with 3" single exhaust system in my TBI 350 truck. Also, a set of mid-length headers with an aftermarket scavenger Y-pipe. I am going to locate the O2 sensor in the scavenger Y-pipe in a similar way it came factory.

Those are some pricey headers :yikes:. The ones I am going to get are only about $165

But do they have a CARB EO? That is the rub. Edelbrock's old TES headers had AIR fittings, and I'd be surprised if you can buy a header that has those anymore. Apparently Edelbrock is out of the header business though, that was the first place I looked.

Anyone else in any state with half a brain (edit: the states brain, not the individual. :) )could weld in an O2 bung (or M18x1.5 jam nut IIRC) but in CA, to remain legal, they've got to have a CARB EO.

I bought my set for my 90 350 TBI engine from Edelbrock and they come with out the air as did the engine. The set i had with my 85 came with Air and a bung in the crossover, which I plugged as it was Federal and not Calif equipped for Smog. You are right they cannot be found, been off the market for the last 4 years.

most headers are CARB legal, the o2 sensor doesnt go in the header anyway. Doug Thorely, JBA and a couple others have CARB numbers.

Well either way I ordered some flowtech headers, I think im just going to weld the bung onto the exhaust, where should I weld it since im running straight pipes? Also I cant seem to find the connector for the O2 sensor anyone have a picture of where its supposed to be? Ive done a google search and haven't found a clear image or definite answer as to where its actually located. Has anyone done a 1 wire to 3 wire heated swap?

the collector is correct placement . this = swap to heated 3 wire to function correctly that far down the line.as the factory manifold drive side was oem position for sensor .

yes there is write ups on this . dont recall thread off top of my head for here at ck5 .

and factory single wire is a weather pack style plug purple wire off the main harnness on the firewall driver side by the steering column.

Ok so putting the o2 sensor in the collector would mean swapping the 1 wire for a 3 wire like I wanted to do. Does it matter what side I put it on ? Im sure with enough digging I can find the thread on here. Thanks for the help.

this would be the one to use for the 3 wire instead of the 1 wire?

Correct. Side doesn't matter, but will be easier whatever side the O2 is already on. AFS-74 uses a three position weatherpack connector, stock is a single weatherpack. Taking the existing O2 wire out of the single weatherpack (truck side of the connection) and putting it into a three wire connector is easy. Add power and ground wires, done.

cool, I was doing some reading and I actually found a diagram, hand drawn but pretty clear and its exactly what you just stated. Now I just have to find the original wire for the oxygen sensor on my truck. I cant seem to find it. Thanks for the help, I definitely have some work to do this weekend.

AFS-74 is the heated Delco O2 you want to use.

I need to get one of those for when I do my exhaust system. I want to install it into the Y-pipe, so the O2 sensor will read both sides of the exhaust system. There is a possibility I may have to move the Y-pipe back further away from the headers than the stock position, and it will need a 3-wire heated O2 sensor.

The O2 connector on my TBI truck is located in the wire harness that runs down the left side of the transmission, but my truck has a 4L80E trans, so it could be different from yours.
