So the stereo's here, I have the dash adapter, all the wiring, and have it all setup...except The Blazer's getting Rhino Lined.

Anyways, trying to have everything ready so installation is just plug and play when I get it back.

I joined the wires in the radio's harness with the aftermarket adapter but am left with an extra wire on that small plug that is seperate from the main 3 plugs on the stock setup.
The aftermarket plug has the yellow and orange wires at the bottom. The yellow is the 12v constant and I joined that with the wire on the radio's harness of the same purpose. The orange one is the one I'm curious about. It just says "illumination" and the Crutchfield instructions don't even show it. Do I just tape it off? I taped off a similar orange wire on the adapter harness.

Just curious as I know on the little plug on the factory harness there's two wires but they're different colors (orange and brown I want to say?) Kinda trying to sort this out in my head before I have to pull the radio out 3 times to get it right.

If you want to use the illumination feature you gotta tap one of the 12V leads for the headlights. One of the gauge cluster backlight wires is the easiest. All it'll do is dim the display on the head unit when you turns the headlights on...not really worth the time IMO.

Nah, for sure.

The guy I got the harness and dash kit from said something about making sure to reverse the little clip there, like yellow to orange or something? Does that sound right?

When i installed an aftermarket stereo i bought the true plug n play harnesses. There is one harness that plugs into the factory wiring with a universal end on the opposite side and then i bought the radio plug n play harness which is specific to the radio which then the opposite universal end plugs into the trucks universal end.

Did that all makes sense? Basically there are two harnesses to go from the factory wiring to a specific stereo.

Scosche is the harness company that i bought.

I think...sounds like what mine are. The radio's harness and the adapter harness.

I'm a bit dyslexic so sometimes I have a hard time with written directions. Diagrams, especially electrical, give me fits.

This should help you out brother... It did me

Thanks man. I saw that yesterday and it did help. Like I said though, I can be a bit "fer-duh" with these things so I like to ask for backup opinions before I blow something up. I can wire in speakers or replace a head unit usually but I HATE chasing electrical gremlins...especially when I create them.

Usually most people get confused 'cause aftermarket harness/radios use yellow for constant 12v and red for ignition voltage which is opposite of most vehicle wiring(12v=red ign.-yellow)
Maybe that's what he was talking about?

Dunno. I distinctly remember him saying to reverse the wires with something to do with the little clip but then again...both times I've met him he was wired on coffee and cigarettes. Nice guy though.:dunno:

 That drives me crazy every time and I always mix them up in my head. I would be more inclined to think constant=red and switched=yellow but what can you do. :doah:

I bought a factory harness adapter, took one look at it and scrapped the whole thing...since mine had the old knob style receiver there was no switched ignition lead in the factory harness and there was only the single center 4 x 10 speaker in the dash so I cut everything out. Started over with crimp-on quick disconnects for everything and tapped one of the switched fuse ports for my ignition lead. I assume that's what the little white plastic thing with the yellow lead is for but it looked chintzy so I ditched it for an add-a-circuit.

What I'd really like to do if I ever get around to building the rear interior panels and installing rear speakers is terminate all the stereo wiring behind the dash with a few weatherpack type harnesses. Maybe a 3-pin for constant, switched and ground and a 4-pin for each pair of speakers.

Don't take this the wrong way man.. Not saying this in a bad way... Are you color blind? Assuming not.. All you have to do with the diagrahm on the site that I posted is look up your make and model vehicle, It gives you the exact color wires of your vehicle and tells which color wires off the radio attach to those colors...
