I just refreshed my K10/30 last year and took it for a 4x4 camping trip with my daughter last weekend. It still has the stock steering wheel, but I wrapped it 20 years ago with one of those wrap kits. The wrap started chipping off this past weekend, and the back of the two spokes on the wheel are almost dripping cause its deteriorating so badly. I got an LMC catalog in the mail so flipped to the steering wheel section. The stock wheels are expensive!! What might be a good alternative for an 80% offroad, 20% street machine. Favorite brands, size, etc. Thanks!:truck:

I have had a Grant for a long time on one of my pickups, like 20+ years. It has held up very well but its a bit small. I forget the actual size. I prefer the stock size in my '89 and '90 but not enough to change out the Grant in the '91. If I was buying an aftermarket wheel I would go stock size or an inch smaller.

My truck had this billet steering wheel on it when I got the truck. It has gmc engraved on the horn button. If you want it let me know. I’ll sell it for a lot cheaper then they go for new.

Me personally I like the stock wheel. Which is why I took this one off. It’s in good shape….just sitting around at this point.

What year do you have? There are stock ones in good shape to be found, if you are interested.
The '89 to '91 squares with the higher trim levels had the 4 spoke like the GMT400 trucks. They are smaller than the original '88 and older wheels.
I personally don't care for a 14" wheel in a truck, 15" seems perfect, but they can be difficult to find in something that looks good.

Oddly only the Blazer, Jimmy, and Suburban got the GMT400 style wheel. The pickups still got the older style wheel.

I have yet to find a aftermarket wheel that looks like it could be factory that is nice. I'm seriously considering putting the wheel that is in my 05 Tahoe on a quick disconnect.

My truck is a '79. Std. 2-spoke, 16" diameter (I think) on a tilt column. I have hydro assist steering with a locked Dana 60 and 37's, but I don't think I need the large diameter, so if I was to replace, probably go with a 15". Does the GMT400 4-spoke wheel bolt right up?

It does. The horn wire plastic piece is different, but interchangeable, so grab it if you are pulling one off a truck.

Or you can buy new.

i'm old and weird.. most aftermarket wheels look pretty horrible to me.. most..

but the one wheel I always like the look of is a Grant Challenger... always dig the spoke config, even with it's dated look.....

Ultimately, for the most part nowadays, I prefer stock or appearance of stock in many things. Steering wheels included. Which is why I have that extra billet wheel. I can see why some people like it but it’s not for me. It’s quality and has nice milled finger grooves in the back of it.

I’ve had a gmt400 wheel on an old crew cab and a really nice billet, leather wrapped challenger style (they don’t make it anymore) grant wheel on a blazer. Super nice, even had the grant steering wheel lock/disconnect device. Was a slick and expensive setup. But again, stock for me. I bought a reproduction after spending some time trying to find a reasonably priced really clean 87 style stocker.

Stock or at most a gmt400 wheel. Big ole school bus style wheels don’t bother me, it’s not like the steering on these trucks is fast and light….or accurate. Stock just feels right.
