Again the question \"What\'s it worth?\"

I am going to look at a 90 Silverado K5 this weekend.
TBI, 125000 miles, owner has done some rocker repair himself ;) (great), From description truck is all original. A/C might need some work.
But a fellow buddy has seen it and claims it looks good.
Michigan truck so bound to have some rust, rockers, rear fenders and the like.

So, with out any further information what would you offer?
Oh, he's asking $4900 and says he's "Flexable".

Thanks in advance.

That sounds exactly like what mine was like when i bought it. I would say $4900 is a very good deal for that, especially for where I live. I paid $6500 for mine, so that sounds really good to me.

Re: Again the question \"What\'s it worth?\"

Well your in the same boat i was a little while back. The selection in the Detroit area just plain sucked. All of them were overpriced, and in worse condition than described to me over the phone. I soon got over hurting the persons feelings by offering less than they wanted because many were overpiced. I got my 87 jimmy for $2500 it has rust in the rockers and the tail gate supports, but it runs good and shifts well, and the hubs were changed to manual ones. I'd offer 3500 and go from there but thats me. Anything with rust and you can forget about blue book values. Good luck with your search.

Something else I"ve been doing recently looking for a beater is giving an offer over the phone, but one thats really low. I called a guy yesterday selling a '77 Chevy fro $1500 and over the phone, I told him I'd give him $600. In a few weeks if its still for sale, I'll call him again. I'm looking for a truck to beat the crap out of though, so this may not work for you.

Re: Again the question \"What\'s it worth?\"

I bought my '89 jimmy 3 years ago with 127000 miles on it for $5000 . Im am still realizing how good a deal i have. More so since i joined this site ...... My jimmy was owned by a woman who never put it in the mud and only used the 4 wheel drive in her yard because her husband told her to use it once a month. Now 3 years and 70,000 miles later, It still runs strong. I have a few problems but hey, I wanted to upgrade anyway

Every local is different with the price of things but I made an excellent investment in my jimmy and i dont regret a minute of it.

I'd offer him $4300, I bought mine with no rust and 104,000 on the K5, but 15,000 on a new engine. I got it for $3800.
