I have a Holly 4 brl carb on my 84 Jimmy sitting on top of an unoriginal 350 v8. The original air cleaner and related plumbing has been destroyed. What is a good replacement for it. I live in rural Texas so I don't have to pass a smog test for inspection. I've seen some air cleaners on various posts that I can't identify. What is your favorite setup.

PS - It runs and drives and stops, but there are still some issues related to sitting up for a few years that we have to sort out. Not fast, but I'm coming!

Something like this is fine...

About $40 at Jegs

One suggestion I have to is get a size that is easily available at the parts store if you're going to be replacing them. But with the one above you can just clean it and re-oil it and you're good to go.

Cant snag one at a salvage yard for cheap ,off some GM product ?..or are all the carbed trucks & cars extinct down there too ?..

My limited search of the local wrecking yards (2) has not been a help. But then I don't know what fits and what doesn't. I realize that you guys rarely have an opportunity to deal with someone as uninformed as I am, but I appreciate your comments even more.

Most any air cleaner off a GM car or truck will work, all you need to know is if you have a 2 or 4 barrel carb--lots of vehicles used 305's and 350's and they'll fit and work...if you have HEI ignition the factory ones will clear the distributor cap ok,some aftermarkets wont, the ones with raised bases would be less likely to hit the cap or wires..

Get the factory tall truck kind and the snorkel. These take a massive filter. Why suck hot air anyway?

Thanks guys. I now have a better idea of what to look for.

There is a tall and a short air cleaner the trucks used. I'm guessing '81 was the first year of the "cold air inlet" air cleaner setups. Not sure what denoted which got the tall vs. small air cleaner, but I know my '83 305 K5 did. Probably not necessary to be tall, but if nothing else, it would allow you to run longer without getting plugged up.
