FINALLY got my company on board with the idea of on board compressors for our service trucks...hehehe...yeah, pun intended :D Of course, as I've been the one pushing this idea, I'm also the one now tasked with getting quotes. Didn't think this one through well enough, lol.

While I have plenty of experience with different OBA setups for filling our typical 35s to 30psi, I haven't done much with running the higher pressures found on the trucks, in our case being 80-95psi, other than occasionally having to top off a trailer or tow rig tire.

I normally run Yorks in my wheelers, but the idea of going with an engine driven solution has already been nixed. Although it will eventually get the job done, my Smittybilt 2.5CFM portable really starts to run out of steam above 50psi, and I've already wore out a couple inside a couple years time just filling my wheeler's tires, where the piston and/or ring goes bad, and just won't put out much air anymore. I have a Puma PD1201 (12V, double stack hot dog tank style) that has worked well for me, and seems to be built better than the Smittybilts, but again, no real experience on constantly running them at higher pressures.

I called Viair and the sales guy recommended the 400p automatic, though I was also looking at the 400H model. Wondering if anyone else has had any experience along these lines, or even might be able to suggest any better solutions? As my boss put it, we want something decent, but not necessarily the Ferrari of compressors, so that likely nixes the Oasis line as well :D

I have a big Viair on my service truck with (2) 5gal tanks...tires go to 110psi and it handles it. I even fill my tow rig, blazer, and trailer tires with it as its more convenient then running an air hose from the garage. It is slower then shop air, fwiw.

The smaller 1 ton service trucks in our fleet have a smaller Viair compressor with (1) 5gal tank.

Are you ever gonna use an ARB?
If so, get their dual compressor
