What type of air filter/air cleaner setup are you guys running? I have a cheapy chrome open with a K&N, that the PO put on. I don't really like the setup, especially after this past weekend. I'm just curious what everyone else is running for ideas so I can change mine.

Got tired of my engine getting cravings for muddy water.

You are better off just getting the stock air cleaner complete with the stock cold air intake & box. Or making a setup as shown above. Than running an open element aircleaner. Espically with TBI. It will make more power if you feed it with cooler air from outside the engine compartment.

Thanks :waytogo: I remember seeing that before but I couldn't remember what thread it was in.

WooHoo pricey is right.:eek1:

hey mudstud, i've thought about trying something like that. is yours pulling from the cowl or from the passenger compartment? looks too low for cowl, but maybe i just can't tell from the pic.

It runs into the pass compartment. I built one similar to his, but it wouldn't flow enough to feed a healthy 350. Now I am running a 547" stroker & I ditched it.

I really like that ram air box Fireplug, but I don't think I could give $150 for it. Not saying it aint worth it , just outta my price range. I think I am gonna convert mine to a heavy equipment style filter housing & let the mushroom dust bowl stick out the hood.

Yeah I faltered at first. But it is a pretty sweet piece.

Eventually my plan is to have one routed to the front as per stock, for the road with a butterfly valve to shut it during water crossings. The second will be routed to a waterproof location.

Pics aren't the best but gives you the idea.

Keep in mind two things.

One, this is somewhat temporary.

Two the space is there purposefully as the hole through the rad support is only I think it was 2 1/2 inches. Apparently this is oddball? Putting it right up to the support would restrict the flow.

I really want to something similar and as you have seen on the Ramair website like the muscle cars have in the front. Almost wish I had a GMC Jimmy from '72 so I could use one of the headlights on each side for the intake trumpets. Like these:

If you were to enlarge the holes that already exist you could do just that. As I was told the holes are 'usually' larger than those in my truck.

I do have a hole on the drivers side I could tap into but the pass side is full of fan shroud, battery and some other chit where there is no room, at this point, to do it without further poking around under the hood.
