The wix air filter that I bought is 3 1/2 high and there is a gap between the lid and the bottom of the air cleaner a little >1/8 inch

Are all these air filters made the same? Maybe this one has a raised groove that another one doesn't....anyway, it appears I need a filter that is about 3 1/4 inches high...but I can't find one.

:dunno::dunno::dunno:

maybe add a piece of narrow adhesive backed weatherstrip around the underside of the lid?

mcbible has every kind of weatherstrip size/material on the planet....

I know that the lid and air case are the correct ones...I just wonder about the air filter if it is the correct height....
really strange

Here is the "correct" factory air cleaner assembly that I bought of eBay...it does indeed fit perfectly on top of my Quadrajet without needing a spacer, and it is "clocked" to the right position.

Here is the lid on without the air filter:

looks like you need a 3" high filter...you got a 1/2" gap there.

should I have this bead blasted or just cup wire brush it? :confused:

your kingdom for my blast cab right now! it'd make that perfect in about 10 minutes... :haha:

i'll go look up a filter for ya..

I see what the deal is now...that WIX filter has a raised ridge that is around the innermost circle....while the air clean has that ridge being in what would be the middle of the air filter ring....
There must be different filters with different "ridge placements...if that makes sense

a quick search shows all the filters for you rig should be 3.5".... 73 right?

i'll look around for a 3".. tho it's hard to find sh*t dimensionally these days.. other than summit, they have 3, 3 1/8 too, but they are K&N washables..

just take a DA with 80 to it.. than wirewheel and handsand anything you can't get to..
