I have the same one in my wood shop. It has an electrostatic prefilter for the bigger dust that can be rinsed off w/ a hose. Inside is a big fiberglass baffled bag that collects the finer dust, which has to be periodically replaced. An indicator on the side shows when air flow is being restricted and the filters need to be cleaned/ replaced. It works well for the really fine sanding saw dust that floats around a wood shop. I doubt it would do much for a metal fabrication shop. The grit and slag don't float like wood particles. It would probably clear smoke particles out of the air but it won't do anything for fumes. The gasses would pass right through it.

I would think evacuation of air is more important than filtering with a metal shop :dunno:
