Air intake questions

Hey sawpping out the old big bulky ugly stock intake to a unfortunately chrome intake with a tall filter, there are some breather hoses which i know are not important. I have question about two pieces there is a small plastic piece that is attached to the air cleaner housing that has several small hoses on it and the other is a round metal piece with a tube attached to it and it is located on the metal intake before the filter housing. and then there is a second sort of filter inside the housing, what is this for. oh it is an 84 700r4 350 5.7l stock motor thanks guys

i just yanked the chrome open elements off of both my trucks and got the stock air setups with the cold air induction through the core support. do a search there are some good threads on this. the stock setup breaths just fine. i noticed no drop in power in both my 350 and 454
