Hey,

I'm thinking about doing something, but would like some input before I get starting.

On my '79K5 I had planned on an air locker on the frt diff and mechanical locker on the rear. Has anyone in the threads put a spool or mechanical locker in the frt diff (I have hub lock-outs) and an air locker (or cable) in the rear diff?

I have a mechanical locker in the front and an open rear diff. I drive it a lot on the street and I like the set up a lot. It makes me want a selectable in the rear when I upgrade axles later

My other truck has a spool in the rear and mechanical in the front. I have no problem with it on the street, but it slides a lot on the trail. I have a twin sticked t-case and it really helps the sliding around when I can turn off whatever axle is sliding in the wrong direction.

Obviously the best situation would be selectable in both axles. But $$ is usually what will keep you from compromising with something else.

Do you have any turning or handling problems with the mech. locker in the front?

What brand is your locker? Eaton, Detroit etc.

Thanks for your input!

I have a Spartan locker in the front of my Cherokee. No hubs. Everything spins all the time. The only thing noticeable is a slight clicking noise when turning Sharp, like in a parking lot.

Something that I just thought of, does having the mech. locker in front reduce or eliminate u-joint lock/binding when turning sharp?

Only over a spool. Otherwise its about the same when off the throttle. On the throttle is different because it will lock

For Technical wheeling I like having the front locked up and the rear un locked, Two air lockers,

For a street driven rig that also goes wheeling I would do air lockers in both, if money didn't allow I would do a detroit rear and ARB front.
