I installed a 2WD steering box along with a small cooler (low side) on my 1986 M1008 Army Truck. I seem to have a lot of air in the system as when I hit the brakes and steer, it moans. I have jacked up the front end and cycled the steering to the left 30 time and to the right 30 times. Sill moans. How long typically does it take to purge these things? Am I doing the right thing by just letting it work itself out?

I have done the same thing on other vehicle and within a relatively short period time it purged. Any ideas.

:dunno:

I've heard it can take a lot longer than 30 cycles. Making sure your reservoir stays full?

Wish i had a better solution, but pretty sure i've heard guys cycling their steering 100 times to bleed completely.

always full / cycle with motor off till all air out.

then fire for 5 sec and turn off. check and fill if needed.

if hydro boost pump pedel 5-10 times and refire for 5 sec and turn off.

check and fill if needed. if full then fire up and cycle when running if low fill as needed.

then turn off and pump pedel 5-10 times and fire up. this should have all the air out of the system.

if you just fire any p/s system with out this you will get lots of air mixed with the fluid and its like a milkshake . and then have fun letting all the air out over the next 30-60 min if your lucky.

I got milkshake that is for sure. I had the engine running, I will re-do it with the motor off.

Thanks!

if air / milk shake then let it sit cap off for hr or so. then turn wheel slow with motor off. this will help air get out.

milk shake is harder to get out than fill / blead the right way.

and hydro boost can trap air a bit more than non hydro boost.

it will come out tho.

I let it sit several hours and followed your directions and the truck is completely fixed!

Thank You! I really appreciate the help.
