Hey Guys,
I just got one of those ARB dual compressor kits and I want to mount an air tank for it. I was looking under the truck this weekend and I don't really have any room down there because I am running large mufflers and dual exhaust so I got to thinking about places in the truck. I want it tucked out of the way as much as possible so I was thinking about putting it just behind the rear fender well tucked into the side and using a pancake style compressor like this:

Has anyone ever done something like that before? Anyone else have a clever way to hide an airtank somewhere on the truck?

Note: I DONT want to turn my bumper into an air tank, I just don't trust it that much, hahahahahaha.

Mine had nerf bars that were converted into air tanks. If you look close at my Avatar you can see them. Only leak was at the fitting. No bigee. I finally cut them off during the 8 lug axle swap when the mounts got in the way of the spring hangers.

I contemplated bumpers or sliders but i bash the he** out of those things and just dont trust it.

Anyone done anything hidden in the cab somewhere?

I put mine under the truck.
Look where the front pan meets the riser for the rear floor. Mounted it to the floor, hanging right in front of rise. Up and out of the way and bolts are hidden under the seat. Real nice spot to mount them.

No pix. It was a few years back on my old '88 truck. Pretty sure the size I had was 7" or 8" x 20" tank, like 3 gallons. Came off off a Freightliner.
* Meant to say, I was running dual cat back setup and had no issues.

If you can't fit a regular air tank underneath, how about a straight length of pipe capped off and tucked inside the frame rail, or in front of the gas tank? How much volume do you want this tank to hold?

You know, a length of pipe would probably work just fine. I don't need massive capacity, I really just need some kind of storage to be able to run an impact wrench if I have to swap a tire.

ARB sells the kit with a 1 gal tank as an option and I tried it out at a 4x4 show here in SoCal and with the 1 gal tank it took 6 lugs off with zero issues. I was hoping to go as big as I could though.

What size thickness would you need in a pipe if you built it yourself to contain say 200 psi max?

I put a 2.5 gal tank up front between my frame. Close to my compressor and totally out of the way

Genius idea! I didn't even look there. I might have tons of room to tuck something up front.

Hope it helps, cost me 25 frog skins to post that lol (jk, had to re-up anyways). If it wasn't dark and raining I'd take a couple more pics of what worked best for mounting it.

I have a 2 gallon tank mounted to the passenger side fender and might have been able to squeeze a 3 gallon. You may or may not have room up there, depending on whether you have AC and which way your battery faces, but it's a thought.

You mean in the engine bay??? I have tons of room on the drivers side fender but it gets crazy hot in there which worries me.

Eh, I see folks put tanks under the truck by the exhaust, etc.

Careful routing of the hoses is required, certainly.

I plan on putting one in front of my fuel tank or under the rear seat. Just not sure what size.

I bought a 2.5 gallon air tank from Sun Performance (out of business now) and mounted it under t he blazer on the passenger side frame rail right about where the TBI fuel filter is located. It is out of the way and tucked up nicely.
