Air tools...

You are absolutely right. The Craftsman impacts are IR--but not their best stuff, somewhere in the middle.

I have an Ingersoll-Rand IR-2135TI 1/2" impact gun (800 ft lbs) an IR-109XP 3/8" drive air ratchet, and a CP heavy duty long barrel (forget the part number) air hammer.

These three are close to my favorite tools in the box.

I have an IR impact wrench, something like 650-700 in reverse. I got it at Sears, it's marketed as being especially quiet, and it is. I really like that feature, the craftsman ones are really loud even when they aren't driving anything.

You have to get a decent impact wrench or it's worthless. The 3/8" drive impact I got with my air compressor is about worthless, it's more like an air version of an electric screwdriver, convenient, but no power.

On a slightly off-topic, my Sears compressor is super loud. Has anyone made an enclosure to isolate the noise from these oil-less compressors?

I just built a small plywood enclosure with vents cut in it. works ok I guess it is quieter. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/hack.gif /forums/images/graemlins/weld.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grind.gif
