alcan question

I think I am about to have some alcans made up for my rig. My question is, can i simply have them add a few inches to the back of the front springs? I think if they added 2-3 inches, it would improve my shackle angle alot. Im running a DIY4x shackle flip in the rear so I am wondering about doing the same to the rear springs because the shackle angle could be pushed back a bit and be a lot better. it would make since to just swap my 52's up front but I have other plans for them if I have these alcans made up.

Alcan will build whatever you want, but they understand the issue w/ chevys and shackle angle when lifted and, as policy, add length to the springs to accomidate. so in other words if you just called and ordered some standard 4" lift springs for the front they would automaticly make them longer to fix the shackle angle. when they build mine i am having them move the pin 2.5" forward for more wheel base. if you decide to go this route be sure your done building your truck b/c they want to know the specific weight of the front and back incase you have added a winch, bumpers, BBC, whatever. this is a good time to set your wheel base where ever you want. as far as the shackle flip goes i dont understand why you have a bad angle there you may have them installed backwards or fliped side to side, i have not heard of any one having this problem w/ Kurt's stuff. either way you could play w/ shackle length in back, shorten them up an inch and that will give you roughly 10-15*. IMO i would order some 56" long rears from Alcan w/ a pin offset of your choise and push the shackle hanger back some, thats what i'll be doing. any way give Alcan a call they have great customer service and will be glad to answer any Q's you have. good luck - justin

thanks for the response. thats good to hear that alcan does that for the springs. As for the rear, the shackle angle is pretty good with diy4x flip and it does flex great, but it looks like it would droop a little bit more if the shackle was pushed back just a little bit more. I think I am gonna order 56's for the rear and swap the mounts on each side, seems to give a great shackle angle. now i Just have to come up with a good way to weigh my truck. thanks-Joe

couple of ways to do that. 1) i weigh at the local Royster Clark feed and fertilizer dist. they have an out door scale. 2) any local truckstop has scale for weighing the big rigs 3) find a local race shop that does any circle track racing they have individual scales for each wheel to set preload and cross weight. you could use that to weigh front and back individually. if you go to the drive on scales just pull the front on get a reading, then the rear. then do it all for a total weight. also maybe some local shipping hub or distribution center would have scales, oh and a saw mill that handles logging and timber will have them too. so there you go weigh that pig and order up!

I bought some Alcan springs last year...there are a couple of guys that work there, Tom and Charlie, who are both cool as heck...I would not hesitate to get another pair based on how cool they were...I screwed up my order, told them the wrong size adn tehy still fixed it for free..
