ALCAN Springs and ORD Shackle 4\" Lift?

I want to put a 4" lift on my 1991 1-Ton Crew Cab P/U, which I plan to use for light trail wheeling and occasional towing. I was thinking of going with ORD Shackle Flip-Kit, ORD front greasable shackles (if they make them for my application), custom manufactured ALCAN springs front (4" Lift) and rear (OEM), with overload springs on the rear.

My question is:

1. Are springs from ALCAN a better quality choice over BDS Springs?

2. What are some of the experiences anybody has had buying springs from ALCAN?

3. For towing should I go with overload or an add-A-leaf spring for occasional towing?

Alcan, National, Deaver, and im sure there are some others out there, are all some high dollar springs. they are not just cut and paste spring companies. when you order springs from these guys they ask you what you are doing with the truck, how mush travel, what kind of ride, how much life, all kinds of variables. and for that you are gonna spend some money. with that being said, I wopuld assume they could build you a spring that could do everything you want it to do, but why? I would go with some off the shelf springs from BDS or Tuff Country.

One of the problems are that I need a set of new OEM leaf springs for the rear, and I cannot find anybody that carries any. I checked places like NAPA, AutoZone Tuff Country, and BDS, but they do not seem to carry OEM leaf springs (any parts guys got any suggestions on this). Chevy dealers have them, but they cost more than a set of custom springs from ALCAN. Custom springs seem to only average about $50 to $60 more than off the shelf springs, and custom springs are a matched set, if that claim actually means anything.

Unfortunately, new OEM stock springs for 1 tons are not very cheap. Your best bet is to either go with a used set if yours are bad or look to one of the custom spring manufacturers. I run 5" lift Alcans on the rear of my rig and I love their performance, but I don't use my rig for towing.

Instead of the 4 inch shackle flip do a 2 inch, then you can run a 2 inch spring.

I could do that. Would there be an advantage to doing my lift that way? If I did do it this way I could go with BDS springs, but would they sell two different size lift springs?

I bought just my front springs, just buy front and rears. 4" front, 2" rears.

Have you thought about an Airbag system. That is one way to have a softer easy riding suspension when offroad or with no load in the truck but still be able to take some load off of the springs when hauling or towing.

Hmmmmmm, Air bags..never thought of that. I will have to do some resarch on that.
