Swapped 1 tons from a m1008 into my rig, moved the perches etc, myself in the driveway. Drives great, tracks well, no d shaft vibes.
Only problem is detroit unlocking on coast going straight.
Researched, uneven wheel speed main culprit.
Checked air pressure per side, brake drag, tire circumference, all good.
Took it to alignment shop just to see where thrust angle was at, but I have no exp with reading these things and the shop guys weren't very, meh, I'll say
Any help would be awesome20220708_173706.jpg20220708_173647.jpg

The rear axle is slightly crooked like the picture of the truck on the bottoms of the report, you could try to loosen u jolts and shift it , it’s best done on the alignment rack though do you can watch the movement.

It’s less than a quarter of a degree. You’ll chase your tail to try to get it closer to zero than that.

The op indicated the truck tracks well and drives straight. Which when the thrust angle is so low it should drive straight.

Having driven a few rigs that truly had a big thrust problem you know it when you drive it. It’s a constant state of correction on a straight section of road because the rear axle is going in a different direction than the front.

My guess is there may be an issue in the Detroit causing it to unlock.

Thanks Zoomad, I kind of feel the same myself as far as it's so little out but like I said in op, I don't have much experience with alignments. Prob with detroit was my first thing to chase. Took it out and put in a new yukon grizzly(basically the same), a little better but still unlocking under coast.
Contacted yukon, rep recommended removing holdout rings, but also said if I had a bad thrust angle(uneven tire speed)
It wouldn't help

So here I am

I run a Yukon grizzly locker in my 14-bolt, and I can't think of any times where it unlocked during coast going straight. If it has I haven't heard it. Does it make some kind of audible noise when it happens to you? I have had a few loud bangs and clunks every now and then, but I have about 7,000 mi on it now and it's fine. Anytime power is applied it's locked completely. Of course I Coast around turns so it doesn't chirp the tires.

Yes it makes a sound similar a freespooling 10 speed bike but more metallic, then as soon as power is applied, clunk, it locks back up. It's pretty predictable but getting annoying trying to never coast.
It happens at higher speeds 30 +, not so much under that.
And coasting thru turns it works fine with no noise

I'd work on the toe of that alignment but it won't help the Detroit from being a noisy ho.

The m1008 lockers are the original design before the soft locker came out. They are inherently more clunky than a brand new one. The Detroit will unlock at all times under coast. The driveshaft is the on off switch. If power is applied in either direction it will lock, and if in neutral, it will be unlocked. It's the re-locking that gets peoples attention.

I don't think you can really fix that characteristic without replacement.

I get what you're saying about the driveshaft being the on off switch. Starts to freewheel, get in the throttle it locks rite up. I'm getting real good at it :D
It's just weird and kinda loud. I was worried about shavings and stuff but when I drained it to swap in the grizzly the oil was clean, nothing in it.
The 37 yr old detroit looked new. Checked the spring pressure, spot on.
I called yukon about stiffer springs to add preload they said there are none but they recommend comp buggies remove the holdout rings. Makes the lock/unlock more aggressive, not sure I want that.

About the toe, does the chart say I'm toe in, or toe out?

You're toe out a bit. Total toe is the more important number than each side because they are connected with a tie rod.

Cool, thank you. Easy cuz all my front end parts are new, no rust lockup :D

Reset toe per Obijaun recommendation.
Used new RECON 1 man toe align kit
Notches and .063 Allen wrench hold tape in position, no more WTF! Tape fell off issues

Thanks for the help guys20220710_123813.jpg20220710_122738.jpg

Interesting way to do it.
It’s so weird hearing peoples’ testimonials about rear lockers. I was concerned about the whole popping thing and drivability of it. I’ve had the locker in for several years now and maybe it’s “clunked” twice/three times maybe. 37-40” tires. I know having an auto is often softer than a manual.

I agree
Spent days researching and read pages of peeps complaining about clunks and being sent 3 lanes to the left or right, etc etc etc
I don't have any of that, and I understand why they clunk so it doesn't bother me

My main prob is kind of hard to explain, but basically if you're doing say, 40mph, you get to that point where throttle input is no longer needed to maintain your momentum
And bam, it starts to freewheel. Let off throttle, get back in it just a bit, clunk it's locked again

Weird. Maybe I'll try to get a sound video later today.

I felt that in Larry’s truck. It’s just on odd feeing with a manual trans. Hit that coast point and it unlocks and the rear of the truck wiggles one way. Pick up the throttle and it locks and wiggles the other way.

It’s annoying enough I’ll go without one until I can put a selectable locker in.

That's where I'll be if I can't sort this out
